Hello and welcome to Sunflower Isle!
Two years ago, my world changed in ways I never imagined, paving the way for a life I didn’t know I needed. I’m Heather, and I’m thrilled to invite you to join me on our journey of adventures, growth, and everyday magic. Sunflower Isle is more than just a name; it’s a reflection of our journey, passions, and the vibrant life we lead on our growing 5-acre homestead. I left an 18-year career to prioritize my health and family, to help us all heal and thrive.
Meet the Family
I’m a proud mom of four incredible kids, aged 5, 6, 8, and 10, and married to Ben, who keeps our lives full of adventure and support. Our days are a mix of homeschooling, enjoying the coastal sunshine, and diving into activities like fishing, spearfishing, raising chickens, and gluten-free baking. Life’s a bit chaotic but always full of joy and surprises.

Our Daily Adventures
Living on Sunflower Isle means every day is a new adventure. Our homeschooling journey allows us to explore and learn in a dynamic and engaging environment. The kids are always curious and eager (sort of) to jump into new subjects, from the wonders of nature to the mysteries of the ocean. Anything fishing or saltwater will keep their attention for days!
Our brand new chicks arrived on June 26th, and we are learning as we go. Raising chickens is not just about fresh eggs; it’s about providing the kids with engaging activities that don’t involve screen time. Caring for the chicks will teach them responsibility and bring plenty of fun and laughter to our lives. I am a novice when it comes to animals. So please, I beg you, share everything with me! I am all ears.
Embracing Coastal Living
Our property is a haven of sunshine and beach life. We spend a lot of time outdoors, soaking up the sun, playing in the sand, and embracing the tranquility of the coast. Fishing and spearfishing are more than hobbies; they’re opportunities for us to connect with nature, learn patience, and catching dinner is a huge bonus!
Looking to the Future
Our dream for Sunflower Isle is to build a multi-generational homestead. We envision a place where our kids and grandchildren can live, grow, and create memories together. A sanctuary where family and friends can visit, bring their RVs, use our tiny homes, RV’s, relax, unwind, and decompress. We see it as a space where you can pick flowers, help with our vegetable garden, and care for small animals and foster animals in need. Our goal is to create a haven of peace, connection, and joy for everyone who steps onto our land.
A Focus on Health and Wellness
A recent celiac diagnosis sparked our journey into a gluten-free lifestyle. Gluten-free baking is a new passion of mine, driven by the necessity to provide healthy and delicious meals for my family. It’s a journey of creativity and care, ensuring that our dietary needs are met without compromising on taste and enjoyment. I’m still in the very beginning of this journey. I nailed Gluten free goldfish, but my first batch of pull-apart rolls was just awful! LOL I will take all the tips I can get! So please comment, message and send me alllll the recipes!

Our Mold Remediation Journey
In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, we discovered hidden toxic mold in our home, which led to a challenging and transformative period for our family. Forced to live in a tiny home for nearly a year, we faced struggles and illness but also found healing and resilience. Throughout this journey, our determination and faith in God’s plan guided us.
I will be sharing our experiences with the symptoms of toxic mold, the discovery process through inspections, the rebuilding journey, life in a tiny home, and our path to healing. Additionally, I’ll provide tips, products, and protocols for packing up, disposing of contaminated items, and ensuring a safe and effective cleanup. Trusting in God’s plan has been our guiding light through this process. I am passionate about this topic and look forward to hearing from you and helping share what I learned along the way. It was such a stressful time in my life, my hope is to alleviate some of that stress with other “moldies” and help to navigate the early stages of inspection, symptoms, throwing things away, moving and healing.
