Chasing Sunshine: Family, Health, and Life in Siesta Key

Sunflower Isle is a reflection of the life we’re building—one filled with faith, family, and the pursuit of light in life’s challenges. What began as a creative outlet during a season of struggle has grown into a space where I share my journey of healing, motherhood, and the joys (and chaos!) of raising four kids.

It’s also where I celebrate our beautiful town, Siesta Key, sharing everything from family-friendly adventures to quiet moments by the beach. Sunflower Isle is about more than just storytelling—it’s about finding hope in the hard seasons, connecting with others, and chasing sunshine wherever we can.

A Little About Me & Why I Started SunflowerIsle

Life as a parent can often feel like a constant cycle—juggling the needs of the kids, the house, and everyone else. There are times when it feels like there’s little room left for me, but I’ve come to realize that’s just part of the journey. While it’s a challenge, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

For many years, I worked full time, often juggling long hours with the demands of family life. But in 2022, everything shifted. After Hurricane Ian and the toxic mold it left behind, I had no choice but to step back and focus on what really mattered: my family and my home. It wasn’t the worst thing that happened—it allowed me to be more present with my kids. But the shift was hard. I had been used to working 60+ hour weeks, and suddenly I was pulled into a life where the pace was slower, but the responsibilities felt just as heavy.

That’s when Sunflower Isle was born. What began as a creative outlet during a challenging season has grown into a space where I can share stories, ideas, and experiences that bring me joy. Writing has always been a dream of mine—I even began working on a book. While that dream is still on hold, Sunflower Isle has become my way of exploring my passion for storytelling and creating something meaningful for others. It’s become a place to connect with others, celebrate the things that matter most, and find fulfillment in sharing this journey.
Living in a beautiful, vibrant place like Siesta Key gives me the perfect backdrop for writing about all the things I love—local family events, dining, shopping, and the best kid-friendly spots. With watersports, fishing, dolphins and sunsets around every corner, I’m constantly inspired. I truly enjoy sharing what makes our town unique.

Raising four kids has been its own adventure, and it’s one that I often share here. From raising chickens (don’t worry, they’re pets, not dinner!) to managing grocery shopping and navigating healthier food choices in a world filled with processed foods and antibiotics, there’s always something happening.

Honest Conversations

Alongside my role as a mom, I’ve spent years grappling with an undiagnosed chronic illness (25 to be exact). It’s been tough, and there were times when I felt like no one truly understood what I was going through. But as I’ve shared my story, I’ve found others who are facing similar struggles, and that connection has been a lifeline. I want Sunflower Isle to be that space—a place where no one feels alone in their healing. Pain is real, and it’s okay not to be okay.

Here, we don’t need to hide our struggles. We can be honest about what we’re going through and find comfort in knowing we’re not alone. It’s been eye-opening for me to learn from others bridging the gap between Western medicine and functional health. Through all of this, I’ve learned to focus on the small wins—the little joys that make life feel lighter, even when illness feels heavy.

I’m grateful to be part of this supportive environment, and I want Sunflower Isle to continue to be a place where we all feel heard, understood, and supported.

As I move forward, I’ll be sharing more about my diagnosis and what’s coming next for me.

PS: A Fun Freebie for Busy Moms and Parents– Here’s a fun little chore chart I made for our kiddos! We print them each week, and they proudly tape them to their bedroom walls. I started this to help us all get into a routine while I’ve been down for the count with some health challenges. The kids were struggling without structure, but these sheets have been a total game-changer.
