Welcome to Sunflower Isle!
If you are planning a trip to Siesta Key, I am so glad you found this guide. I am a mom of four living just 15 minutes from the beach, sharing real life on my blog. Family, healing, simple living, backyard chickens, and the places locals love along the Gulf Coast.
This guide is built from everyday experience. You will find beach favorites, good food, sunset spots, and ideas for full beach days or laid back nights. Whether you are here for spring break, a family vacation, or a slower escape, this guide is meant to help you enjoy it all.
After a busy 2024 hurricane season and the reopening of Midnight Pass, our coastline keeps shifting, reminding us that this place is always changing.
So grab your favorite drink, get comfortable, and let’s start planning your Siesta Key getaway 🌞🌊

A Quick Note Before You Dive In!
You won’t see the word “cheap” used in this guide.
The businesses around Siesta Key are locally owned and deeply rooted in this area, and a lot of care goes into creating the experiences people come here for. Instead of focusing on the lowest price, I focus on value. That might mean an incredible meal, a memorable adventure, or a beach day that feels truly relaxing.
After a busy hurricane season in 2024, this community showed up for each other in big ways. Today, seeing local businesses open, welcoming visitors, and moving forward is something we do not take for granted.
When you visit, every meal, tour, and shop you support helps keep this place special.

🏖️ Pro Tip – Staying Between the Lifeguard Stands

For families, I always recommend setting up between the green and red lifeguard stands at Siesta Key Public Beach. This area offers extra peace of mind with multiple lifeguards nearby and keeps you close to restrooms, food options, and the main beach access points.
💡 Local Note:
For many years, visitors loved spotting Scot “Scooter” Ruberg near the green lifeguard stand. Known affectionately as “Scooter of the Beach,” he served as a Siesta Key lifeguard for over 40 years and became a familiar, reassuring presence for locals and visitors alike. Scooter officially retired in late 2025, but his legacy is still very much part of Siesta Key’s beach history.
🎣 Rojo Sport Fishing – The Ultimate Fishing Experience

If you’re looking to spend a day on the water reeling in big catches without the hassle of planning, I highly recommend Rojo Sport Fishing! Captain Jon, who runs the charter, is known for his expertise, laid-back personality, and knack for finding the best fishing spots. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a complete beginner, he makes every trip fun and stress-free.
🚤 Where is Rojo Sport Fishing?
Rojo Sport Fishing operates just south of Siesta Key, out of Venice, FL, one of the best deep-sea fishing locations in Southwest Florida. Venice is famous for its rich waters filled with snapper, grouper, kingfish, tarpon, and more.
💙 A Family Favorite
Our 11-year-old son, Wahoo Wyatt, would tell you that fishing with Captain Jon is the highlight of his year. Wyatt has fished with different captains, but Jon remains his all-time favorite. His trips are packed with action, and there’s always a great story to take home along with the day’s catch.
🎣 What to Expect on Your Trip
- A Personalized Experience: Jon’s charters are perfect for small groups looking for a more hands-on, private experience—not a crowded party boat.
- Hassle-Free Fishing: Everything is provided—gear, bait, tackle, and fishing licenses—so you can just show up and enjoy the day.
- Expert-Guided Fishing: With years of experience, Jon knows where to find the best catches and how to create a trip tailored to your skill level.
If you’re visiting Siesta Key and want a high-quality, private fishing experience, Rojo Sport Fishing is worth the short drive south. You’ll head out for an exciting day on the water and bring home plenty of fresh fish for dinner!
